19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional title, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued four early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
